"The World is Thirsty because We are Hungry"
——Theme of "World Water Day 2012"

Daily consumption and pollution by human activities causes global water scarcity. "Water Footprint" is thus an indicator of water use that refers to the total volume of freshwater directly and indirectly used to produce goods and services. Understanding this concept allows us to make wise decision on sustainable way of living, and conserve the precious resources for our next generation.

"Hong Kong Water Race" is organized by Wofoo Social Enterprises, co-organized by Water Supplies Department, and sponsored by HSBC. Through the means of city orienteering, participants learn the concept of water footprint by visiting scenic spots and public amenities around designated area and completing tasks.

Basic Information
Scoring
Orienteering Race

  • "Hong Kong Water Race" adopts "Score Orienteering" race mode

  • Within the specified time period, teams should visit the preset checkpoints with the help of a map provided by the Organizer

  • The score of each checkpoint is varied depending on the distance, level of difficulty, etc.

  • There is no set route for the race. Teams are not required to visit all checkpoints or in order

  • Teams should return to the finishing line within the time limit, or else scores will be deducted

Game Tasks

  • Some checkpoints involve game tasks related to water issue and sustainable development

  • Teams are required to complete tasks to score according to instructions

Different categories will combine or separate "Orienteering Race" and "Game Tasks". By summing up the scores, the team with the highest scores will be the champion. If a tie in scores, the team with shorter finishing time in the Race will be the winner.
